Don't Limit Home Rule on Plastics in Texas

Some Texas legislators are at it again and want to limit home rule in regards to plastic bags.

Texas House Bill 2416 aims to take away local cities' rights to enact a plastic checkout bag ban or fee based ordinance as a way to help reduce plastic pollution.  This new bill would roll back the existing bag ordinances in Austin, Brownsville, Fort Stockton, Freer, Laguna Vista, South Padre Island and Sunset Valley.  The bill is currently moving through various committees and we need you to contact your state legislators often so they are aware of this BAD BAG BILL.

Various communities around Texas have enacted ordinances to reduce plastic bags and the groundswell is growing as more places see the need to prevent plastic pollution.
